Dogma in medieval Jewish thought: from Maimonides to Abravanel

Kellner, Menachem Marc
This essay in the history of ideas seeks to trace the development of creed formation in Judaism from its inception with Moses Maimonides (1135-1204) to the beginning of the sixteenth-century, when systematic attention to the problem disappeared from the agenda of Jewish intellectuals. Dr Kellner describes, analyses, and compares the dogmatic systems of Maimonides, Duran, Crescas, Albo, Bibado, Abravanel, among others. English translations are presented for relevant texts, which, for the most part, have never before been critically edited or translated.

Polluted science: the EPA's campaign to expand clean air regulations

Fumento, Michael
In his book, Michael Fumento persuasively shows that the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) expansion of the Clean Air Act could burden Americans with major lifestyle changes and cost tens of billions of dollars-with no real benefit. The author looks at recent EPA proposals to tighten national air quality standards for particulate matter and ozone. He argues that the evidence supporting the health benefits of the new standards is extremely weak and ambiguous and has been distorted by the EPA. Furthermore, he says that proposing new regulations is absurd considering that the levels of these pollutants are already much lower than they used to be and are still dropping. By demanding pollution levels well below the level at which health effects are apparent, he says, the EPA labels all man-made emissions-even those that are harmless-as pollutants. He suggests that the clearest results of adopting the new standards would be to expand the agency's regulatory powers and set a precedent for making future revisions to air quality standards with little regard for demonstrated health effects. This book will appeal to environmental, energy and health policy makers and analysts, scientists, economists, legislators, and executives in utilities, chemical, transportation and manufacturing industries.

Conflict and Complexity: Countering Terrorism, Insurgency, Ethnic and Regional Violence

Philip Vos Fellman,Yaneer Bar-Yam,Ali A. Minai
Complexity science affords a number of novel tools for examining terrorism, particularly network analysis and NK-Boolean fitness landscapes as well as other tools drawn from non-linear dynamical systems modeling. This book follows the methodologies of compex adaptive systems research in their application to aaddressing the problems of terrorism, specifically terrorist networks, their structure and various methods of mapping and interdicting them as well as exploring the complex landscape of network-centric and irregular warfare.

Semiconductor Lasers and Heterojunction LEDs

Kressel, Henry
Vera and Roman are reunited, but as things get worse for the Blackwatch Empire there’s only one way Vera’s path can take her: to the throne or to her death. Will the allies she’s made be enough to help her seize the empire? Will her unique abilities enhanced by her implant give her the resources she needs to fight an inter-planetary army? And will Roman still stick with her now that her path is leading where neither of them wanted to go? The Matsumoto is the last book of The Matsumoto Trilogy, a thrilling YA SCI-FI series. If you like heart-pounding action, suspense, and romance, then you’ll love The Matsumoto.
