Four Weeks in the Trenches

Fritz Kreisler
Four Weeks in the Trenches is a classic World War One biography by the great violinist, Fritz Kreisler. The first war book actually written by a man who has served at the front in WW1 was written by a famous violinist. The material is presented with vigor and simplicity. One of the phenomena of war--the sudden transformation of the highly emotional, neurotic man of literary or artistic pursuits, accustomed to an atmosphere of refinement, culture, and luxury, into a primeval savage in the space of a few days--interests the author.

From Grief Into Vision A Council

Deena Metzger
Never before in our history as a human race have we been confronted with such grave concerns: the devastation of the environment, global terrorism, vast abuse of political and religious powers, destruction of species and threats to every life form upon this planet. How do we sustain our hope, and our vision of a viable future? Inevitably such disasters are opportunities to draw us together as a people to try to heal ourselves and the Earth. Deena: It is a difficult and sorrowful story that we are in. It requires everything of each of us who have enough love, sorrow and courage in our hearts. We have to find the pieces of this story that may yet sustain creation. Deena s journey, as chronicled in Entering the Ghost River, continues as she returns to Africa and is once again visited by the male elephant elder she calls The Ambassador . Inspired by this continued connection, she interweaves the threads of her community s stories, dreams and visions to create a new form of council on the page, as an offering to us of the wisdom that the circle creates.

Postcards from Heaven Messages of Love from the Other Side

Dan Gordon
"Nearly all of us either have had or have heard of an experience in which a soul already departed reaches back to us who have been left behind.... Sometimes, it's no more than a whisper, a familiar smell in the air, or just the feeling of presence as vivid as when the loved one was still alive. These moments are just that...moments, a glimpse behind the veil; not a letter from heaven, but a postcard." (Dan Gordon, Postcards from Heaven) A postcard from heaven is not a revelation from on high -- rather, it's "a whisper, a familiar smell in the air, or just the feeling of presence" of someone who's passed away. It is just enough of a message to imply that what we call life is not ended by what we call death. Dan Gordon has been receiving these postcards all his life -- from his father, his older brother, and his son Zaki, who was killed in a car accident when he was only twenty-two. Postcards from Heaven is the beautiful, inspirational memoir of four generations of a remarkable family and how they remain interconnected, a part of one another's stories, even after passing to the other side. Here is the span of his father's long life, moving and funny, from the Russian Revolution to his improbable Depression-era courtship of a woman named Goddess -- Gordon's mother -- to his spiritual later years in Israel; his incorrigible older brother's mischievous magic, able to find humor even in cancer treatment; and his brilliant son, a natural storyteller who looked destined to follow his father into the movie business. These are the stories of their lives on earth as well as after death. Full of humor, compassion, and love, Postcards from Heaven comforts and assures us that those we loved can reach back to those of us still on earth -- and, if only we are attentive enough to listen, we can hear them say, Got here safe. It's really beautiful. Much love, till we meet again.

A memoir of spiritualism and self-discovery from the acclaimed, award-winning author At fifty, Alix Kates Shulman, author of the celebrated feminist novel, Memoirs of an Ex-Prom Queen , left a city life dense with political activism, family and literary community, and went to live alone on an island off the coast of Maine. Alexandra Silber
Alexandra "Al" Silber seems to have everything a teenager could want: brilliance, beauty, and talent in spades. But when her beloved father dies after a decade-long battle with cancer when she is just a teenager, it feels like the end of everything. Lost in grief, Al and her mother hardly know where to begin with the rest of their lives. Into this grieving house burst Al's three friends from theater camp, determined to help out as only drama students know how--and they're moving in for the duration. A. Weberman
Rudolph, the Trump supporterhad a very brown noseand if you knew the truth aboutyou would even say he blowsAll of the other cabinet membersused to laugh and call him namesThey never let poor Rudyplay in any white house games. Then one post election eveDonald came to say:"Rudolph with your stamina so low,I'm afraid sissies have got to goRudy never got a post in the Trump Administration because he lacked stamina another way of saying he was basically a sissy since thanks to HOMOTHUG, word circulated on the internet that he was a bisexual. Rudy had this book removed from Amazon ages ago but it is back like a recurrent nightmare. Homothug exposed him as a bisexual whose butt buddy was his childhood friend Alan Placa, a disgraced child molesting priest. This book reveals the real Rudy, a cross-dressing freak whose father was busted in a State Park Men's Room frequented by boys for offering to give one of the kids a blow job. Rudy's dad was a piece of work, he claimed he ran a bar when the only bar he ever owned was a tire iron he used when he was a Mafia enforcer. His father was busted for finding this milkman that owed the mob money and taking what he owed from him forcibly. This occured at 96th St and Lexington Ave in Manhattan. And the man who bailed pops out was an investor in the 2nd Ave Subway long before the current one began construction. This book is not only a history of the pot-hating weasel but a history of the mob in New York City and New Jersey. Shoot, the U.S. Marshalls and the NYPD broke into my crib on the premise there was a gangbanger loose in the building when in reality they were looking for one of my sources who had gone underground. Rudy lied for Trump, covered up Trump groping behavior, campaigned with him and become his spokesperson. Rudy showed his true colors, something that many suspected on him all along. He is basically a fascist.

The Ultimate Foundation of Economic Science An Essay on Method

Ludwig von Mises
2012 Reprint of 1962 Edition. Exact facsimile of the original edition, not reproduced with Optical Recognition Software. If Mises has an unheralded masterpiece, "The Ultimate Foundation of Economic Science" is it. There are two senses in which this book is indeed ultimate: it deals with the very core of economics as a science, and it is the last book that he wrote. For that reason, it is a real milestone in the history of his work. In this volume, Mises argued that economics is a science because human action is a natural order of life and that it is the actions of humans that determine markets and capital decisions. Since Mises believed these links could be proven scientifically, he concluded that economics, with its basis on that human action, is indeed a science in its own right and not an ideology or a metaphysical doctrine.

My less than secret life: a diary, fiction, essays

Ames, Jonathan
My Less Than Secret Life is the companion volume to Jonathan Ames's first memoirish endeavor, "the mildly perverted and wildly amusing" (Vanity Fair) What's Not to Love? This collection of the cult author's fiction and essays includes Ames's public diary, the bi-weekly columns he penned for the New York Press. The entries of this diary are a record of his mad adventures: his ill-fated debut as an amateur boxer fighting as ‘The Herring Wonder', a faltering liaison with a Cuban prostitute, his public outing of George Plimpton as a Jew, his discussion with Eve Ensler about his dear friend The Mangina, a renegade mission as a Jew into the heart of Waspy Maine, and other such harrowing escapades. Whether trying to round up a partner for an orgy, politely assisting in an animal sacrifice, or scamming tickets to the WWF's Royal Rumble for his son, Jonathan Ames proves himself a ballsier Everyman whose transgressions and compassionate meditations will satisfy the voyeur and encourage the halfhearted. But be warned. As Jonathan says, "I don't like to be a bad influence. It's bad enough that I have influence over myself." "...Ames has always been one of my favorite contemporary writers ... for his ... fearless commitment to the most demanding psychosexual comedies."—Rick Moody
