Flourish

Martin Seligman
"Traditionally, the goal of psychology has been to relieve human suffering, but the goal of the Positive Psychology movement, which Dr. Seligman has led for fifteen years, is different&—it's about actually raising the bar for the human condition. Flourish builds on Dr. Seligman's game-changing work on optimism, motivation, and character to show how to get the most out of life, unveiling an electrifying new theory of what makes a good life&—for individuals, for communities, and for nations. In a fascinating evolution of thought and practice, Flourish refines what Positive Psychology is all about. While certainly a part of well-being, happiness alone doesn't give life meaning. Seligman now asks, What is it that enables you to cultivate your talents, to build deep, lasting relationships with others, to feel pleasure, and to contribute meaningfully to the world? In a word, what is it that allows you to flourish? “Well-being” takes the stage front and center, and Happiness (or Positive Emotion) becomes one of the five pillars of Positive Psychology, along with Engagement, Relationships, Meaning, and Accomplishment&—or PERMA, the permanent building blocks for a life of profound fulfillment. Thought-provoking in its implications for education, economics, therapy, medicine, and public policy&—the very fabric of society&—Flourish tells inspiring stories of Positive Psychology in action, including how the entire U.S. Army is now trained in emotional resilience; how innovative schools can educate for fulfillment in life and not just for workplace success; and how corporations can improve performance at the same time as they raise employee well-being. With interactive exercises to help readers explore their own attitudes and aims, Flourish is a watershed in the understanding of happiness as well as a tool for getting the most out of life. The Opposite of Hate A Field Guide to Repairing Our Humanity

Sally Kohn
“Brilliantly illustrates the immense and disarming power of changing course and driving not toward division, but toward civility and mutual respect.” -- Ms . magazine As a progressive commentator on Fox News and now CNN, Sally Kohn has made a career out of bridging intractable political differences. In this age of dangerous partisan resentment and rising bigotry, she decided to investigate hate itself--to better consider how we can stop it. With her trademark humor and humanity, Kohn introduces us to leading researchers and scientists who are exploring the evolutionary and cultural roots of hate. She travels to Rwanda, to the Middle East, and across the United States, talking with former terrorists and reformed white supremacists, and even sitting down with some of her own Twitter trolls. What she discovers is surprising: All of us harbor hate but the powerful acknowledgment that we are all in this together can lead us out of the wilderness. The opposite of hate is connection .

The Thin You Within You Winning the Weight Game with Self-Esteem

Abraham Twerski, M.D.
Diets don't work. The pounds may slide off, but for too many dieters, once the food scales and calorie counters have been put away, the weight returns. Dr. Abraham Twerski, a specialist in addictive behavior, shows that it is not lack of willpower that leads to overeating but an absence of self-esteem. To develop healthy eating habits, a person must first develop a strong sense of self. With his characteristic upbeat style, Dr. Twerski explains: -The seemingly illogical compulsion of overeating and its connection to low self-esteem -The origins and evolutions of low self-esteem and how to identify common problems of a negative self-image -How to rely on yourself, instead of food, in times of stress, anger, and fear -How to deal with friends and family members who may contribute to and unhealthy self-image and eating habits -How to find the courage to change the life-long habits and where to get outside help in the form of therapy and support groups With Dr. Twerski's straightforward and honest approach, losing weight is redefined as gaining a sense of self and banishing diets forever.

The Sacred Fire The Story of Sex in Religion

Ben Zion Goldberg
"There is a huge amount of academic 19th century literature relating to sacred sexuality. However, there are not many books which cover this subject matter for the general reader: this book is one of the few. Goldberg approaches the culturally sensitive issue of the intersection of religion and sex frankly and in some depth. That said, this work has a few problems which need to be kept in mind while reading it. There is not much in the way of apparatus aside from a bibliography: not even the Bible quotes are attributed. Goldberg also invents a number of descriptive passages, particularly in the second section. While these go a long way towards dimensionalizing this material, they include a number of purely speculative details which are not identified as such. Perhaps the best part of this book is the discussion of the evolution of the attitude towards sexuality in Christianity. Goldberg also describes a number of little-known curious cults such as the Russian Skopzi, the mediaeval flagellants, and others. Long out of print, but available used, this book serves as a useful introduction to the subject and sheds light on some little known corners of the subject of sacred sexuality." 12 Secret Laws of Self-Realization A Guide to Enlightenment and Ascension by a Modern Mystic

Shahram Shiva
This book also includes, The 4 Stages of Soul Evolution. Books on "ascension" typically focus only on the old control programming that to grow spirituality you need to bow to something or someone. They are filled with religious iconography, dogmatic doctrine and highly simplistic messages involving angels and European saints. Shahram Shiva writes, "It's astonishing to me how people are being continuously programmed for hundreds of years to maintain a subservient mind, which is the antithesis to growth, self-empowerment, self-realization and the real ascension process." The 12 Secret Laws of Self-Realization, 4-Stages of Soul Evolution and all the other chapters in this book are only about 1 thing, to empower you in every way possible: mentally, spiritually, emotionally and physically. This book helps you to grasp and understand what real spiritually and growth are about. It's about you discovering your own power and realizing that the only limit is you and the only height you need to achieve is tapping your own limitless potential in these bodies at first and then well beyond into your future in other types of incarnations. The goal is not and has never been to become like someone else, real or imaginary, or beg someone to give you inner power. You are God. You are the enlightened one and you are the savior of you. If you choose to take charge of your own destiny instead of being a follower. If you like to think and feel your way through life. If you want to find out what's under the surface and discover the real meaning of things instead of being swayed by the mainstream at all times. If you dust your belief system from time to time and reevaluate your likes and dislikes. If you have managed (or seriously trying) to undo your childhood programming. If you're hungry for wisdom and to push yourself higher at all times. Then this book is for you. For individuals who are focused on mental and spiritual growth and breaking personal barriers, there has never been a better time. We're living in an era of accelerated experiences and heightened reality. The holy grail of personal growth, spirituality and yoga is self-realization. For those truly seeking self-empowerment and enlightenment there is no greater mission. Although the phrase self-realization is commonplace in the world of personal and spiritual growth, very few actually understand the process or even desire it. For most growth only means success in business, career or love and spirituality merely suggests bowing to statues, worshiping deities, stress management, breathing exercises and stretching. Real spirituality is not depended on any base religion. This is a key secret teaching in mysticism. Yet all so-called spiritual movements in the world are just an extension of some religion. In the US when people refer to spirituality they mostly mean a form of Christianity. If they mention that they follow yogic or Indian teachings that suggests they have become Hindus and worship their gods. The same is true with Buddhism. I call this process deity swap, which is just a lateral movement in faith. It is the intention and the mission of this book to cut through centuries old haze of disinformation that has existed about the power of real spirituality and to inspire, guide and help you to keep on expanding and ascending.
